Hi friends,
I'd like to clarify some questioning responses we are receiving from the second newsletter email today. After emailing the first round, I discovered that half of the article text is not visible. I resent the newsletter once I fixed the problem so that you would all be able to read it. The email with the subject: "Your New August 2010 Update from Hillside" is the corrected version. I'm sorry for the confusion and thank you for your feedback!

What's Going On at Hillside?

	The India Team is Back This month our short-term team returned safely from their two-week visit to India. Staff member Susannah Boyed led the team, which consisted of Bryana Russel and recent intern graduate Everett Hill. Some of their activities included teaching English and Spanish, providing instruction in telling Bible stories, and getting to know the long-term missionaries. This was Hillside's first time participating with the team living in India and it was a great opportunity to get to know them and discover first-hand how we can best serve them. You can read more about the India trip and why Everett didn't come home on Hillside's India blog.

	Meet Our Newest Intern A few weeks ago we welcomed Josue Camunez, our newest intern, from Chihuahua, Mexico. He is twenty and enjoys playing and listening to music. After spending some time playing guitar in his youth group's worship band, Josue decided he wanted to further pursue ministry as part of God's plan for his life. He is here to discern what his next steps will be, to learn more about missions, and to learn English. We look forward to seeing what God will do through Josue in the next nine months here. 	Turkey Team Right now we have a short-term team ministering in Turkey! This trip is led by Staff Member Josh Conrad. They are experiencing first-hand what it means to live in a country inhabited by 99.9% Muslims. Please check out their daily blog and keep them in your prayers as they continue to travel.

	We are Looking for Financial Partners We are looking for committed partners to help us reach the unreached. Every day we are working to connect long-term projects on the missions field with the Western church, so that both would be encouraged and mobilized to continue in God's plan for his people. But we can't do this alone. If you would like to donate a tax-deductible gift of $25 to support our work, click here for more information. If you are interested in a specific area of ministry, please be sure to designate where you would like your donation to go in the notes section or memo line.

We are Seeking Out New Church Partners!

A large portion of what is accomplished by Hillside Missions Organization is made possible through Church Relations. Our vision is to see the Church work together as a unified body in partnership with God, who is ultimately drawing the nations to himself for his glory. Hillside's current role in accomplishing this goal includes connecting and networking with churches and establishing relationships. We are continuing to reach out to the churches of Richmond, and have also recently begun to spread out to the surrounding areas. Many churches are already involved with missions organizations in some fashion; this is good. We are not seeking to replace, we are seeking to magnify what God is already doing. On a daily basis, we seek out and contact churches and set up introductory meetings with church leaders. During these conversations, we get to know a little bit about the leaders and their passions and vision for their churches. We in turn introduce ourselves and our passion for the unreached. We then offer any assistence the church may be able to use, specifically under the umbrella of international missions ministry.

For instance, we went to Fredericksburg and met a new pastor the other day. He is a really nice guy who has recently started a church that God has called him to plant. He has a background in missions and greatly desires his church to focus on reaching the world. We were able to give this leader some sound advice for the next steps toward his vision of getting more involved, while also initiating a new friendship with him. He would like us to return at a later time to speak with his congregation about long-term projects with which we are connected around the world, as well as to share with the other leaders some options we see in developing a clearly defined missions plan for their church. We are excited to see what God is doing through this church, and how we can help them to create a stronger impact in the world.

A second step we are taking is in preparing a short-term missions trip with another church. This month we met and spoke with the pastor of New Highland Baptist Church in Richmond. He would like to visit and encourage New Hope Haiti Mission, an outreach school and orphanage in Haiti. After brief introductions, the church pastor asked for advice on how to plan the trip. We are currently planning additional meetings to help equip and prepare the traveling team from New Highland Baptist before they leave for Haiti in November. A few elements in these preparation meetings include cross-cultural training, useful international traveling tips, exploring theologically sound reasons to go, fundraising, planning toward trip-specific ministry goals, and maintaining a primary focus of showing the love of Christ.

These are a few examples of how Hillside is available and excited to work with you and your church! There are still so many congregations here in Richmond of whom we have never met and perhaps one of them is yours. Come by the office for some coffee! We'd love to get to know you. Or perhaps you are located outside of Virginia, but feel your church would benefit from some more intentional missional goals. We would love to hear from you!

We're home!

The flight home went very well. Everyone is tired, but happy.

The trip to China was a great success and we thank God for that.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support as we, as a community, answered the call to take the gospel to unreached people of China. We have all felt encouraged and energized by your attention and responses to these updates.
We'll be posting some reports and testimonies from the trip here later.
The team will be presenting some stories from their trip on Sunday morning. Don't miss it!

Heading back to the big city

After a good night's sleep, we're leaving the rural areas where the villages are and we're heading back to the city now.
We had to leave the village early last night because it began to rain and the dirt roads become impassable when wet. We had planned to be in that village for another few hours and potentially sleep there. Unfortunately, our schedule has no room for being stuck in one village for an extra day or two.

We just got breakfast to-go. Glutenous rice with potatoes, peanuts and green onions, noodles, and fried dumplings.

We then made a quick shopping stop for some handicraft stuff made by one tribal group, and we're on the road.
Tonight, we'll attend a bible study in a church, and we'll spend some time encouraging local believers.

Last night we spent some time talking about our trip so far and encouraging each other.

Tomorrow night we'll fly back into Beijing.
